The Taliban leader directly responsible for September 11th attacks is free. The media must grill presidential candidates about this outrage. America deserves closure.

Why is no one on the TV news demanding to know why the US government has not tracked down Osama bin Laden? The United States has more military resources than any other country on Earth yet we can not find a single man hiding in the hills of Afghanistan? Why is this not a central issue in the 2008 presidential election?

9/11 7 Years Ago

The US military marched into Afghanistan presumably to get Taliban terrorists. It marched into Iraq presumably to fight threats to America. Yet 7 years later we still do not have the man who personifies the terror inflicted on our country. This is made worse by the apparent lack of interest. Fighting a long time to achieve your objective is one thing. Giving up and accepting you can't do it is another.

Where's Bin Laden

The media seems more interested in doing stories on Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter than Osama bin Laden. The public seems content to forget about the terrorist who killed 3,000 Americans. What if Adolph Hitler escaped and lived free after World War II? Would the world just forget about him and pacify themselves with salacious stories about pregnant teens? Why then is the Hitler of the 21st century getting a pass?

September 11th Presidential Candidates

Barack Obama is not making the hunt for Osama bin Laden a central theme of his campaign for president. In a brief mention in his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, Obama said, "I... made clear that we must take out Osama bin Laden and his lieutenants if we have them in our sights. John McCain likes to say that he'll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell - but he won't even go to the cave where he lives."

Osama bin Laden Still Missing

Republican presidential candidate John McCain did not mention Osama bin Laden by name in his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, but he says he will hunt bin Laden down if elected. McCain told ABC World News, "President Clinton had opportunities to get Osama bin Laden. President Bush had opportunities to get Osama bin Laden. I know how to do it and I'll do it,"

Where's the Taliban Leader?

McCain was responding to a question by a reporter. He did not say how he will do it or why this knowledge has not been applied to the hunt for bin Laden over the past 7 years. Did McCain keep this knowledge secret from a Republican president while he waited to be president himself? The Republicans are not eager to draw attention to an issue that questions their claim that they are the party that makes Americans safer.

9/11 Blame Game

How can America be safer if the guy who attacked it is still out there plotting against us 7 years later? Whether they like it or not, the Republicans have been in charge since 9/11 and they haven't tracked down Osama bin Laden. McCain's attempt to put some of the blame on President Clinton seems desperate considering Clinton left office before the 9/11 attacks.

September 11th Outrage

The American people bear some of the responsibility for the apathy that allowed bin Laden to remain free all these years. If the American public demanded justice from bin Laden the current president and the candidates for president would take notice and take action. However, most of the blame falls squarely on the media. Part of being an ethical journalist is acting as an advocate for the people. Journalists could have kept the story alive and kept the public engaged in the debate. The media has done the American public a great injustice by failing to do that.
